QL Plus Featured by VA—Now Accepting Project Requests from Veterans and First Responders

McLean, Virginia (March 6, 2025) – QL Plus, a national nonprofit that engineers personalized quality of life solutions for injured veterans and first responders, today announced they are now accepting veteran- and first responder-submitted project requests for the 2025/26 academic year.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently
featured QL Plus and its mission to create custom-engineered solutions that improve the lives of injured and disabled veterans and first responders. Now, QL Plus is calling for ideas for assistive devices that can enhance their mobility, independence, or ability to enjoy the activities they love.

Each year, QL Plus collaborates with top engineering schools across the country to design and build personalized devices at no cost to the recipient. They currently have partnerships with 25 universities, including Virginia Tech, George Mason University, San Diego State University, The University of Texas at Austin, University of Colorado - Boulder, and Old Dominion University.

Past QL Plus projects include:

“If you’re a veteran or first responder facing physical challenges and have an idea for a device that could make your life easier, we want to hear from you,” said Mark Robbins, QL Plus Executive. “Our student teams are eager to turn your ideas into reality.”

Any veteran or first responder with an injury or disability—whether service-related or not—is eligible to apply. If selected, they will collaborate with engineering students throughout the academic year to design and refine a solution tailored to their needs. QL Plus covers all costs, including materials and travel for fittings if needed.

Veterans and first responders can submit their project ideas now at qlplus.org/request
